The future may be steeringless

Taking the electric and concept one step further, German car maker Volkswagen is bringing together two of the most anticipated technologies to the forefront. Think electric and pair that with a smart artificial intelligence setup and you have the new ID VIZZION. The company unveiled the 4th of its futuristic range of electric car concepts at the Geneva International Motor Show called the ID VIZZION. It will be the flagship of the ID range comprising the ID, the ID Buzz and the ID Crozz.

Although all the ID family cars are futuristic apart from being electric, the VIZZION is the first of the Volkswagen futuristic cars that is without a steering wheel altogether. The company says that it will have a digital chauffeur with artificial intelligence that will not only drive the car but also learn about the preferences of its occupants and prepare the car accordingly. The VIZZION will be the size of the Passat on the outside and have the space of a Phaeton on the inside, says VW. Dr. Herbert Diess, the global CEO Volkswagen said that the concept will go into production latest by 2022. It will have a range of up to 650km for long trips. At the moment the VIZZION comes with a unique ‘Suicide door’ format which allows it to go pillar less. This also allows for easy ingress/egress. The four seats look like loungers and more so because all occupants are essentially passengers.
