The Tucson is a tireless highway devourer as I discovered on a recent road trip that meant doing almost 700km—all the mileage logged this month. Easy steering, enough power and torque when you want it, good visibility and the ability to absorb the bumps that one is unable to avoid, makes the Tucson a great highway cruiser. I was expecting better fuel efficiency in the city and on the highway the fuel efficiency improved but not as dramatically as I’d imagined. Most of the blame though lies with the quality of roads and traffic. I am sure our collective national fuel bill could easily go down by 10 per cent, if there was more order on the roads and not as many traffic jams for no rhyme or reason. In the peak of summers here in Delhi, the Tucson keeps the driver cocooned from both the heat and pollution. The air-conditioning works well and it doesn’t take long before the cabin starts feeling chilly, thick in the peak of Delhi summers. This perhaps speaks volumes of the filtration system that keeps the air cleaner than the outside. Even with a full complement of passengers and luggage, the cabin of the Tucson is a welcome place. On the highways the low beam light has an even spread but the main beam seems to lack reach.
