H-D reveals ambitious future plan
IT IS no secret that Harley-Davidson has been going through a rough patch. Addressing these issues, the company has charted out a path, which it believes will help drive revenue growth and expand operating margins. The “More Roads to Harley-Davidson” plan revolves around three primary segments—new products, broader access and stronger dealers.
Harley-Davidson announced a new modular 500cc to 1250cc middleweight platform that will spawn the company’s first adventure tourer christened Pan America 1250, as well as a 1250cc custom model and a 975cc Streetfighter model. These products will start reaching markets 2020 onwards. More products in the segments mentioned above will be added by 2022.
For emerging markets such as Asia, more specifically India, the motorcycle manufacturer is looking to develop a 250cc to 500cc small-displacement product in partnership with a manufacturer native to the region. The specific mention of India highlights the importance of the market. In 2019, the Harley Davidson LiveWire, a fully electric offering will see the light of day. The company will follow it up with more electric motorcycles through 2022.
Broader Access will be achieved through an expansion of its digital footprint and potential tie-ups with e-commerce providers. The company is also aiming to strengthen its dealer network and implement a framework rewarding the best performing partners.
