The FronT engine
In the front is an asynchronous electric motor positioned parallel to the front axle, in fact slightly towards the back, for the best utilization of space say the Audi engineers, transfers its torque to the front axle through a two-stage planetary gearbox with one gear ratio. The motor reaches its peak torque output of 247Nm within a fraction of a second and a max power output of 125kW. Of course, like with all asynchronous motors power output can be boosted for short durations. When the driver switches to S mode and fully depresses the accelerator the power output of the front motor goes up to 135kW and 307Nm for eight seconds. Audi says that both the motors at the front and rear are lightweight because of their aluminium rotors and require very little maintenance. On the front can be seen the motor control module that will be explained in detail in the box on the rear motor.
