In the front is an asyn­chronous elec­tric mo­tor po­si­tioned par­al­lel to the front axle, in fact slightly to­wards the back, for the best uti­liza­tion of space say the Audi en­gi­neers, trans­fers its torque to the front axle through a two-stage plan­e­tary gear­box with one gear ra­tio. The mo­tor reaches its peak torque out­put of 247Nm within a frac­tion of a sec­ond and a max power out­put of 125kW. Of course, like with all asyn­chronous mo­tors power out­put can be boosted for short du­ra­tions. When the driver switches to S mode and fully de­presses the ac­cel­er­a­tor the power out­put of the front mo­tor goes up to 135kW and 307Nm for eight sec­onds. Audi says that both the mo­tors at the front and rear are light­weight be­cause of their alu­minium ro­tors and re­quire very lit­tle main­te­nance. On the front can be seen the mo­tor con­trol mod­ule that will be ex­plained in de­tail in the box on the rear mo­tor.
