1950’s Barchettas make a comeback
Both concepts are a bow to the barchettas of the 1950s and the gentlemen racers who drove them in various competitions. More concretely, the Monza SP1 and SP2 pay homage to the 1948 Ferrari 166 MM, which is the first Maranello model to be referred to as a “barchetta.” Both the Monza SP1 and Monza SP2 rely on the naturally-aspirated V12 engine found inside the 812 Superfast, but with a slight power bump which takes the 6.5-litre powerplant’s output to 810bhp and 719Nm. Extensive use of carbon fibre is also on the menu, with a clear goal, says Ferrari - “to make them light and responsive and to enhance their sporty, aggressive visual appeal.” Performance-wise, the Monza SP1 and SP2 concepts need 2.9 seconds to reach 100kmph from a standstill and can brake from 100kmph to a halt in 32m.
