A new pair of Indian flat trackers
Indian Motorcycles seems to have derived inspiration from the world of flat track racing and have come up with the FTR 1200 and FTR 1200S.
The Indian FTR 1200 comes with a new 1,203cc V-Twin engine which makes 120bhp and generates 115Nm of torque. The bikes comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which also features a slipper clutch. Overall, the company claims that this motor is lighter than the one deployed in the cruiser family. The FTR1200S features three riding modes (Sport, Standard, & Rain), cornering ABS and an IMU-powered traction control along with stability and wheelie control. Also, the S variant sports fully-adjustable Sachs suspension. Brembo-sourced dual 320mm non-floating discs up front with four-piston M4.32 calipers and a P34 two-piston caliper clamping on 260mm disc at the back remain standard on both motorcycles.
Both bikes utilise a Trellis frame and feature beefy upside down forks up front. To ensure a lower centre of gravity and better weight distribution, designers have positioned the fuel tank under the seat of the motorcycles. Both models feature a similar rear suspension and swingarm design as the FTR750 which inspired the birth of these two motorcycles.
As far as the design is concerned, both these bike clearly seem to be inspired from the past world of flat tracking. Up front, it comes with a classic round headlamp which features LEDs and then there is the flowing tank and stubby tail-section. As far as features go, the S variant gets a high tech TFT LCD display which is touch ready and offers phone connectivity. The standard bike on the other hand makes do with an old school single pod instrument panel.
