BRINGING BACK an old classic to India, Mahindra-owned Classic Legends launched the retro-styled Jawa Motorcycles from the 1960s with three all-new motorcycles - Jawa, Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak. The prices range from Rs. 1.55 lakh for the Jawa 42, Rs. 1.64 lakh for the Jawa and Rs. 1.89 lakh for the factory-custom bobber model, Jawa Perak. The new models use a 293cc, liquid-cooled engine with single-channel ABS. The Jawa is a 300cc retro-styled cruiser, taking the fight straight to Royal Enfield’s 350cc models. Most of the designs elements are retained from the original, but with better build, more power and lower centre of gravity. The company has retained some of the old-school charm such as the round headlamp, fenders and bulbous fuel tank, chain guard and the seat. The company will start with 105 dealerships, with deliveries to begin early next year. The company enters the territory of yet another Goliath, the Royal Enfield and it will be exciting to see how Jawa manages to re-create the magic.
