MG Hector

It was a very busy month for our Hector as underlined by the 3,068km I’ve managed to put on the odo . This includes a roughly 1,000km Delhi-Amritsar roundtrip while the rest was clocked mostly in and around the city. The trip to Amritsar and back brought to light quite a few strengths of the Hector. First, the space on offer is unmatched in this segment including the boot which at 587 litres is quite a bit more than its nearest rival. Feedback from second row passengers has been very positive with special appreciation for the recline feature and flat floor that makes life easier for the middle occupant. I, too, have found the driver’s seat quite nice and well suited to long distance driving. Adding to the overall feeling of space within the cabin is the massive panoramic sunroof that elevates ambience in general. The suspension setup tuned keeping ride comfort in mind is another positive and helps Hector’s mile munching abilities. Personally, I found it a tad too soft as the car exhibits quite a bit of vertical movement over undulations while doing triple digit speeds. Fuel efficiency has not been all that impressive. The overall figure mentioned here seems okay for a petrol vehicle this size, but a lot of it is down to the 12-13kmpl I got on the highway. Within city limits, I’ve been averaging 9.5kmpl. Driving with a light foot and short shifting has helped achieve double digit fuel efficiency figures, but I’ve struggled to get anywhere close to the claimed 15.81kmpl.

SPACE ON OFFER IS UNMATCHED IN THIS SEGMENT INCLUDING THE BOOT WHICH AT 587-LITRES IS QUITE A BIT MORE THAN ITS NEAREST RIVAL
