RE Interceptor 650
Right from the time I set my eyes on the Interceptor in California, my heart was set on this motorcycle. Then we got it in India and the bike won the prestigious Indian Motorcycle of the Year award as well. But since living with a motorcycle is something else, we got a hold of one. Over the past many months the Interceptor has been in custody of multiple AUTO TODAY colleagues and each one of them has ended up falling in love with it. During the course of our long term test, the bike has seen various terrains. From a mental ride to the hills in the peak of monsoons to daily runs across the city, the Interceptor has dealt with all with ease. The primary feel good factor of the bike is the engine. The 650 twin motor remains ultra smooth even today and can hold high speeds with ease. The lack of vibrations helps increase ride comfort and long distance cruise-ability. There have been no leaks from any parts and the bike remains as oil-tight as ever. The comfortable riding position also adds to its accolades. The tyres too are brilliant and offer good grip at high speeds. Now for the things we did not like. The seat of the Interceptor could do with a bit more cushioning. While the engine is smooth the seat creates havoc on long rides. Taller riders did complain a bit about handlebar positioning, but that can be sorted out with a set of risers. The only thing which we think could have been done better is the instrument panel. The overall design is rather old school and the digital fuel gauge is not very accurate. The only flaw we faced over the past few months was a busted speedo drive which was promptly changed.
