Hero starts distribution of Harley-Davidson bikes
HERO MOTOCORP announced it has constituted a separate vertical to take forward the Harley-Davidson (H-D) business in India and has appointed Ravi Avalur as the Business Unit Head of the new vertical. Avalur will report to Hero Chairman and CEO Pawan Munjal directly. Avalur joined Hero MotoCorp from engines and engine components manufacturer Cooper, where he was the Head of Strategy and International Business and has also served as the Ducati India Managing Director. While Hero brought into its fold 11 existing H-D dealers across the country, it commenced wholesale dispatches of its products to the dealers late last month.
The announcement is in lieu of the agreement signed by Hero and H-D India to sell the latter’s motorcycles, motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise through a network of brand-exclusive dealers and its own dealership network in India. Hero will also develop and sell a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley brand name.
HERO MOTOCORP surpassed the cumulative production milestone of 10 crore units, and in the process becomes the first Indian automobile manufacturer to do so. The company also announced its plan to launch more than 10 products, including variants, refreshes and upgrades, every year over the next five years. Talking numbers, the two-wheeler manufacturer crossed 1 crore mark in 1994, 2.5 crore in 2008, 5 crore in 2013, 7.5 crore in 2017 and finally 10 crore in 2021. The milestone was achieved with the roll out of Hero Xtreme 160R from the company’s manufacturing facility in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
The company also unveiled special celebration edition models of the Splendor+, Passion Pro, Glamour, Xtreme 160R, Maestro Edge 110 and Destini 125 to mark the special occasion, and these special celebration edition models will go on sale from this month.
