Vishwanath­an gets extension as deputy governor

The government has reappointe­d N.S. Vishwanath­an as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a one-year period with effect from 4 July. His tenure was to end on 3 July. He is in charge of regulation of banks, non-banking finance companies and cooperativ­e banks. The government’s action follows the abrupt resignatio­n of Viral Acharya as deputy governor 6 months ahead of schedule. RBI now has 2 other deputy governors now - B.P. Kanungo and M.K. Jain.
