Ex-IAS of­fi­cer is IRDAI chair­man

For­mer Kar­nataka chief sec­re­tary and 1981-batch IAS of­fi­cer Sub­hash Chan­dra Khuntia has been ap­pointed chair­man of In­sur­ance Reg­u­la­tory and Devel­op­ment Au­thor­ity of In­dia (IRDAI). He will have a ten­ure of 3 years. The po­si­tion has been ly­ing va­cant for nearly 2 months af­ter T.S. Vi­jayan has re­mit­ted of­fice. Hail­ing from Ja­gat­shing­pur in Orissa, Khuntia joined the IAS in the Kar­nataka cadre and served in var­i­ous gov­ern­ment de­part­ments in­clud­ing as sec­re­tary at the depart­ment of school ed­u­ca­tion & lit­er­acy, spe­cial sec­re­tary and fi­nan­cial ad­vi­sor in the min­istry of petroleum and nat­u­ral gas and held po­si­tions in Hindustan Petroleum Cor­po­ra­tion and In­dian Oil Cor­po­ra­tion. He be­came chief sec­re­tary of Kar­nataka in Oc­to­ber 2016.
