SBI to introduce BaaS
State Bank of India is going to implement what it describes as a greenfield solution - Backup as a Service (BaaS). The project will be steered by the bank’s Private Cloud Management, which is called SBI Meghdoot Cloud. It will be a centralized backup solution to cater to the application team’s data backup, archival and retention requirements. The solution will be implemented in 2 stages - phase 1 will see all the applications hosted in cloud infrastructure and phase 2 will see the extension of the facility as a service to other applications which are deployed outside the bank’s cloud, on physical servers, at the group level. The proposed solution will have encryption methodologies to protect the integrity and confidentiality of data and de-duplication with compression for optimal utilization of space. SBI Meghdoot Cloud has its operations in the bank’s 2 data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. It is now using a combination of snapshot based image backup for all VMs and EMC Networker / Data Domain (DD) Solution for file level backup and recovery for few applications.
