Kerala coops to take up housing project
Cooperative banks and credit societies in Kerala have taken up a project, ‘Cooperative Alliance to Rebuild Kerala’ in the wake of massive floods that led to destruction in the state. Some 1500 houses are proposed to be constructed in the first phase of the project to be handed over to those who lost their houses. It is estimated that some 7000 homes have been completely destroyed in the floods. The district administration and local self- government institutions will oversee the construction which would be under the supervision of the primary cooperative society of the area. The construction will be completed in three months. The houses will be built using a technology suitable to overcome natural disasters with the technical support of experts in the field.
