Canada has a ver­ti­cal $10 note

The Bank of Canada has is­sued the new ver­ti­cal $10 bank note fea­tur­ing the por­trait of so­cial jus­tice icon Vi­ola Des­mond. The new note is ex­pected to grad­u­ally en­ter into cir­cu­la­tion along­side ex­ist­ing $10 notes. Bank of Canada Gover­nor Stephen S. Poloz said bank notes are not only a se­cure means of pay­ment that Cana­di­ans can use with con­fi­dence. They also tell the sto­ries that have shaped the coun­try. The new $10 note, Canada’s first ver­ti­cal bank note, fea­tures en­hanced se­cu­rity fea­tures that are easy to check and dif­fi­cult to coun­ter­feit. Among these are a color-shift­ing ea­gle feather, which changes from gold to green and raised ink on the por­trait, the word ‘Canada’ and the large num­ber at the bot­tom.
