Ushering in a New Era
Ducati finally unveil their latest superbike engine and, for the first time, it’s not an L-twin
MORE THAN A YEAR ago, we had asked Ducati head honcho Claudio Domenicali about the V4 engine, to which he said that the company wasn’t working on one. Back then the company was, in fact, working on such an engine and being quite tight-lipped about it. But now everything is out in the open. Ducati have unveiled the future of the Bologna-based superbikes that will feature the new Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine.
This engine was unveiled just before the Misano GP at a grand event where Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna and Technical Director Andrea Forni took the wraps off it. Ducati’s top riders like Andrea Dovizioso, Jorge Lorenzo, and Michele Pirro were also present at the unveiling along with CEO Claudio Domenicali. Ducati also announced that the first bike, called the Panigale V4, would be unveiled on 5 November, just two days before the EICMA show.
The new engine is derived from the 2015 Desmosedici
