The first Supersport race was dominated by Michael dunlop and dean harrison, just like the first Superbike race. The first of the four laps saw Michael and dean both do a 128+-mph (206+ km/h) lap on their smaller honda and Kawasaki machines respectively. however, on lap two, dunlop quickened his pace and lapped the legendary circuit at 129.197 mph (207.916 km/h), breaking his own record that he set back in 2013. The remaining two laps saw Michael increase his lead at each check point. dean harrison was lapping the circuit at a consistent pace, trying to keep up with Michael; however, dunlop’s superior pace saw the northern irish racer win the race with a comfortable margin of over 10 seconds, thus posting his 17th TT win.

dean harrison, who tried his best to beat Michael, was only able to do a best lap of 128.619 mph (207 km/h), which saw him grab the second spot on the podium after a disappointing retirement during the Superbike race. in third spot was an ecstatic Peter hickman, who, after fighting with James hiller, was able to grab the final podium place with just 0.258 seconds between him and dean.
