The Bir­chall broth­ers, Tom and Ben, took two vic­to­ries at the 2018 IOM TT and they did so by smash­ing records. The first side­car race saw Ben and Tom claim vic­tory by 47 sec­onds over John Holden/Lee Cain. The Bir­chall broth­ers were not only able to win the first race by set­ting a new lap record at 118.694 mph (191 km/h), they also shat­tered the race record. This was the fourth con­sec­u­tive and 17th over­all win for the broth­ers. John Holden/Lee Cain were also ecstatic as they fin­ished on the podium in sec­ond place with a 117.370-mph (188.889-km/h) lap. Third place went to Tim Reeves/Mark Wilkes, who com­pleted the podium.

The sec­ond side­car race, how­ever, was even more in­ter­est­ing as the Bir­chall broth­ers went on to break their own record which was cre­ated only a few days ago. They also broke the 19-minute bar­rier for a side­car. Ben and Tom started the race be­hind John Holden/Lee Cain; how­ever, by Bun­ga­low, the Bir­chall broth­ers took the lead and were gun­ning to­wards a new record of 119.250 mph (191.914 km/h) that saw them lap the moun­tain course in just 18 minutes 59.018 sec­onds, fastest ever for a side­car. Re­sults of race two were iden­ti­cal to race one. Holden and Cain too posted their best-ever lap of 117.878 mph (189.706 km/h) and fin­ished sec­ond. Third place went to Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes who also en­tered the 117-mph club thanks to a 117.729-mph (189.466-km/h) lap.
