LOCATEAM SIDECAR TT RACE 1 AND 2
The Birchall brothers, Tom and Ben, took two victories at the 2018 IOM TT and they did so by smashing records. The first sidecar race saw Ben and Tom claim victory by 47 seconds over John Holden/Lee Cain. The Birchall brothers were not only able to win the first race by setting a new lap record at 118.694 mph (191 km/h), they also shattered the race record. This was the fourth consecutive and 17th overall win for the brothers. John Holden/Lee Cain were also ecstatic as they finished on the podium in second place with a 117.370-mph (188.889-km/h) lap. Third place went to Tim Reeves/Mark Wilkes, who completed the podium.
The second sidecar race, however, was even more interesting as the Birchall brothers went on to break their own record which was created only a few days ago. They also broke the 19-minute barrier for a sidecar. Ben and Tom started the race behind John Holden/Lee Cain; however, by Bungalow, the Birchall brothers took the lead and were gunning towards a new record of 119.250 mph (191.914 km/h) that saw them lap the mountain course in just 18 minutes 59.018 seconds, fastest ever for a sidecar. Results of race two were identical to race one. Holden and Cain too posted their best-ever lap of 117.878 mph (189.706 km/h) and finished second. Third place went to Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes who also entered the 117-mph club thanks to a 117.729-mph (189.466-km/h) lap.
