Can I Update My Bike?

Bike India - - TECHNO MAIL -

I am writing because recently I came across the latest KTM 250 Duke. I liked the new design and the instrument console. I own a KTM 200 Duke, which doesn’t have the same design. I wanted to know if I can change the frame, body work and the instrument console to make my old 200 Duke look like a new bike. Please suggest the changes that I will have to make in order to update my bike. Raja Pillai, Chennai

The changes you wish to carry out on your bike are possible, but it will be illegal to do so. When you buy a motorcycle, the RTO registers its stock specification. Changing anything that will alter it in any way from the original spec is not allowed. Moreover, there is a very complicated process as to how you can change the appearance of your motorcycle and then re-register it. Doing so without informing the concerned legal authorities is going against the law. Therefore, we would not recommend the update that you have in mind.
