Silverstone Washout
In other news, the 12th round of MotoGP, which was to be held at the Silverstone Circuit in Britain, was cancelled because of incessant rain and dangerous track conditions. MotoGP riders deemed the track unfit for racing after they went out for a sighting lap. FIM and Silverstone authorities waited for a good five hours before cancelling all racing due to dangerous conditions. An investigation has been ordered by the Silverstone Circuit authorities. FIM safety representative Franco Uncini mentioned that the track was fit for racing when he had inspected it in February this year; however, it seems that a few changes were made between February and the racing weekend. MotoGP Race Director Mike Webb had already made it clear that the reason for cancellation was the track surface which saw a lot of standing water at many places. In the end, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta also made a statement, saying that the race can be postponed to Monday or Tuesday if the conditions don’t allow racing on a Sunday.
