The trend towards even bigger and more comprehensively equipped models took a further leap two years after the R 1150 GS’s arrival. The first Adventure derivative featured longertravel suspension, hand protectors, and usually an optional 30-litre tank and aluminium panniers. It inspired countless riders, including Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, to take Long Way to somewhere. By the end of the following year, total GS sales had reached 1,70,000.
