Limited-run Super Duke RR Revealed

-

WHEN IT COMES TO EXCITING MOTORCYCLES, THE ORANGE MISSILES from Austria rank pretty high, but this limited-edition, ultra-light Superduke RR towers a head and shoulders above the rest of KTM’s impressive line-up by hitting the coveted 1:1 power to weight ratio. While it gets the same mental 1,301-cc V-twin that pumps out 180 hp at 9,500 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm as the standard bike, the Superduke RR is nine kilograms lighter, bringing its dry weight down to just 180 kilograms. Most of this weight saving has been achieved with the extensive use of carbon-fibre and lightweight forged aluminium wheels.

All of the bodywork, the rear subframe, and tail unit with solo seat are crafted from carbon-fibre, as is the front mud-guard that incorporates caliper-cooling scoops, just as on a MotoGP bike. Other minor weightsaving measures include the use of a lithium battery, titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, and lighter, CNC-machined triple clamp. Ergonomic revisions put the rider in a slightly more aggressive riding position, while the throttle grip gets a 65-degree opening, as distinct from the standard Super Duke R’s 72 degrees, for a snappier throttle response.

Other bespoke features on this bike include the height-adjustable rear shock, new Track and Performance riding modes within the already exhaustive electronics suite, adjustable hand and foot controls, and the Apex Pro 7117 steering damper.

Only 500 units of the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR will be built and KTM are now accepting bookings from customers in Europe. Unfortunately, the chances of seeing one of these machines on Indian roads are slim to none.
