Interview: Pol Espargaro
A chat with Repsol Honda’s Polyccio to find out how well he has taken to the manic RC213V
We were given the opportunity of a short question-and-answer session with the 2021 motogP Repsol Honda Team rider, Pol Espargaro. it has been good so far. Of course, we are always limited by the amount of testing we can do and we would always like to do more. But, yes, so far, we have made a solid start but there is still more to do and more to learn. Some areas i have understood quickly and some parts are taking a bit more time, but the Repsol honda Team is an incredible team and i am sure we can do it.
With strong performances in a very tough last season, have you learnt anything new about the top format of motorcycle racing?
in MotoGP, you are always learning. The year 2020 presented a lot of new challenges, especially away from the track. As a rider, i also had to adapt to fighting new opponents, to understand how to run a race in the higher positions because we spent some years further behind as we achieved other goals and worked in a different way. i did a lot of development work during this time. it was not just about racing but also about growing and improving the project.
The Honda has been a tough motorcycle for a few riders. How has it been with you and what have you been working on with it?
A lot of people say the honda is difficult to ride, but, honestly, i want to stop this story. The performance of the bike is very good and i am enjoying riding it a lot. We have been working to understand everything on the bike; what is the best way to brake, how the electronics work, and what is the best riding position for me, etc.
