Harley-Davidson launch the Pan America 1250 to take on the established players in the ADV segment
LAST YEAR IT SEEMED LIKE HARLEY-DAVIDSON WERE ON THEIR WAY OUT of our market, but the motor company is back with a bang: a fresh 2021 line-up, and their first ever adventure bike. The Pan America 1250 has been a long time coming and has finally been launched at Rs 16.9 lakh for the Standard variant, while the top-end Special retails for Rs 19.9 lakh (all prices exshowroom). This pricing positions it just above the current crop of middleweight adventure bikes such as the Triumph Tiger 800, Honda Africa Twin, and Ducati Multistrada 950, but below full-size ADVs like the BMW R 1250 GS.
The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is built around steel and aluminium frame components, held together by the company’s first oversquare V-twin which acts as a stressed member of the chassis structure. The motor marks a departure from Harley’s traditional long-stroke architecture and puts out 152 hp and 128 Nm of peak torque, helped along by a Variable Valve Timing system for a healthy spread of torque all through the rev-range. Suspension is fully adjustable with 190 millimetres of travel at both ends and is semi-active for the Special variant. Other features include a non-reflective touchscreen TFT dash, five ride modes, connectivity options, navigation, IMU-based safety aids, and adjustable ride height on the Special.
With the launch of the Pan America, any fears that Harley-Davidson were leaving the subcontinent have been put to rest and, supported by Hero MotoCorp, the American marque has also revealed an extensive 2021 line-up for our market. The Iron 883 is the most affordable Harley you can buy with its Rs 10.11-lakh (ex-showroom) price tag, followed by the Forty-Eight at Rs 11.75 lakh (ex-showroom) to round out the Sportster/Street Line. H-D’s Softail/ Cruiser line-up is composed of the Softail Standard, Street Bob and Fat Bob, Fat Boy and Heritage Classic, with ex-showroom prices ranging from Rs 15.25 lakh to Rs 21.49 lakh. The big rigs, Harley’s Touring Line, start at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Electra Glide Standard, going up to Rs 25.53 lakh (exshowroom) for the Road King and Rs 34.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Road Glide Special, the brand’s flagship product in India.
