Triumph Turn up the Heat

The British manufacturer has revealed an entry-level tourer based on the Trident 660 and hinted at a sporty, faired version of the new Speed Triple 1200

WE KNOW THAT TRIUMPH BUILD OUTSTANDING MOTORCYCLES THAT ARE GREAT FUN to ride, and the recently-launched Trident 660 proves this yet again. Now the British firm has revealed the second bike built around its excellent new 660-cc platform, and this is our first look at the Tiger Sport 660.

Triumph have released these images of a camouflaged Tiger Sport 660 that honestly doesn’t leave much to the imagination. It is clear that the bike has wide bodywork, twin headlamps, generous radiator shrouds, and a tall windscreen. While the single-piece seat looks comfy, the raised handlebars hint at a comfortable and upright riding position. It gets 17-inch alloys shod with sporty, road-biased rubber, so this is definitely an entry-level, tarmac-bound adv-style tourer, similar in nature to the Kawasaki Versys 650. The motor, exhaust system, and frame seem to be identical to those on the Trident 660, which is not a bad thing. The 81-hp motor is revvy and entertaining, the exhaust note is addictive, and the steel chassis supports excellent handling characteristics. We also happen to know that there is a more adventure-biased version of the Tiger 660 waiting in the wings, but more on that once we receive official word from Triumph.

Apart from opening up to the entry-level adventure touring market, Triumph also seem to be looking at developing a 1,200-cc faired sport bike, based on the recently launched Speed Triple 1200 RS. A teaser released by the company on their YouTube channel seems to suggest that they are working on a Speed Triple RR. From what we can tell, the bike is going to sport a half fairing with a single round headlamp up front, and put the rider in a somewhat aggressive riding position. Not much else is clearly visible in the teaser video, but we expect it will share the chassis, engine, and underpinnings with the Speed Triple 1200 RS. Can’t wait to get handson with this one.
