First Honda E-scooter for India Coming Soon
TO BE A PART OF THE GROWING MOMENTUM FOR ELECTRIFIED TWOwheelers in India, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) will be bringing their first e-scooter next year, especially after indigenous brands like Ather and OLA Electric, who have managed to arouse plenty of interest and achieved record-breaking bookings recently.
Sources close to the company confirmed that HMSI’s first EV for India is currently being developed and tested here in India. While speculation about the new entrant is rife, it is probable that the India-specific electric scooter could be based on the “BENLY e”, which is one of Honda’s international EV models in the commercial space.
As we await further information on this, Honda have already got in touch with their Indian spare part suppliers in an attempt to increase localisation in respect of the new e-scooter. If the initial tests go as planned and the local parts meet Honda’s stringent test standards, then the company could also explore the possibility of exporting the EV from India to other markets.
