Royal Enfield Himalayan Heads to the South Pole
AFTER SUCCESSFULLY UNDERTAKING SOME OF THE MOST CHALLENGING expeditions, Royal Enfield have now set their sights on the daunting Antarctic Circle with the ‘90° South-Quest For The Pole’ journey.
A couple of modified Royal Enfield Himalayans will set out on this expedition on 26 November, starting from Cape Town, South Africa, to cover a distance of 770 kilometres over a span of 39 days. The journey will lead them from Ross Ice Shelf, via the Leverett Glacier, to the Amundsen-Scott Pole station.
Royal Enfield have been testing the two Himalayans that will undertake this expedition at the Langjokull glacier in Iceland since September 2020. The second phase of these tests came to an end in July 2021. These adventure bike will be ridden by Santosh Vijay Kumar (Lead, Rides and Community) and Dean Coxson (Senior Engineer, Product Development), Royal Enfield. Support to the duo will be provided by the crew from Arctic Trucks, a member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators.
In conformity with Royal Enfield’s #LeaveEveryPlaceBetter initiative, the bikes will run on compacted snow tracks in an attempt to reduce the carbon footprint. This will reduce motorcycle drag and also limit emission. The team will also ensure all waste (including human waste) will be brought back for appropriate disposal.
We wish Royal Enfield the best for this challenging adventure.
