Pre­net­ics ac­quires DNAFit to ex­pand foot­print

Pre­net­ics, a Hong Kong­based ge­netic test­ing and dig­i­tal health com­pany, has an­nounced ac­qui­si­tion of DNAFit, a UK-based ge­netic test­ing com­pany, to ex­pand its global foot­print and ex­tend its reach in the con­sumer mar­ket.

This is the first ac­qui­si­tion Pre­net­ics an­nounced af­ter it re­ceived $50 mil­lion from Alibaba Hong Kong En­trepreneurs Fund and Ping An In­surance. DNAFit works di­rectly with con­sumers, us­ing their ge­netic in­for­ma­tion to help them achieve their health, fit­ness and nu­tri­tional goals. Ac­cord­ing to Pre­net­ics, the deal would add a proven busi­ness-to­con­sumer chan­nel to its al­ready strong busi­ness-to­busi­ness of­fer­ings via large in­sur­ers and cor­po­rates. With over 100 staff, Pre­net­ics has a sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence out­side Hong Kong, mainly in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
