Dr Rajesh Gokhale steps in as new DBT Secretary, India
Dr Rajesh Gokhale has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He succeeds Dr Renu Swarup who retired on October 31, 2021. Dr Gokhale has been serving as a professor at the Department of Biology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and is known for his studies on the metabolic diversity of pathogens. He is credited with the discovery of a family of long-chain fatty acyl-AMP Ligases. He is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy and the National Academy of Sciences. He has been awarded Swarnajayanti Fellowship, Dr Shanti
Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the national bioscience award for career development and the Infosys prize in Life Sciences.
