Uni­ver­sity of Hous­ton signs MoU with In­dian Nurs­ing Coun­cil

The Uni­ver­sity of Hous­ton, Col­lege of Nurs­ing and the In­dian Nurs­ing Coun­cil, a na­tional reg­u­la­tory body for nurses and nurse ed­u­ca­tion in In­dia, have signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU), for de­vel­op­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for nurs­ing ed­u­ca­tion in In­dia through aca­demic and lead­er­ship ex­change.

The Nurse Prac­ti­tioner Crit­i­cal Care pro­grammes in In­dia will sup­port hos­pi­tals to in­crease the num­ber of higher ed­u­cated nurses trained to care for crit­i­cally ill pa­tients. The nurse prac­ti­tion­ers will work closely with physi­cians to pro­vide treat­ment and care for pa­tients in in­ten­sive care units.

Grad­u­ates of the Nurse Prac­ti­tioner Crit­i­cal Care pro­gramme will be el­i­gi­ble to pur­sue the doc­toral pro­gramme. The Doc­tor­ate of Nurs­ing Prac­tice (DNP) pro­gramme is a pro­fes­sional grad­u­ate de­gree which fo­cuses on the clin­i­cal as­pects of a dis­ease process and uses ev­i­denced-based prac­tice to im­prove pa­tient out­comes. Nurses in In­dia with a DNP will have com­pleted the high­est level of train­ing in nurs­ing prac­tice. Sri Ra­machan­dra In­sti­tute of Higher Ed­u­ca­tion and Re­search in Chen­nai has inked a pact with Royal Col­lege of Physi­cians and Sur­geons (RCPS), Glas­gow, UK, for train­ing med­i­cal grad­u­ates in prepara­tory cour­ses and ex­am­i­na­tions of MRCP, MRCS and FRCS. With this, the Sri Ram­chan­dra In­sti­tute (SRI) will be­come the cen­tre for the Royal Col­lege’s med­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing ac­tiv­i­ties in South In­dia, es­pe­cially in Tamil Nadu, sources from the In­sti­tute claimed. The tie-up will al­low both in­sti­tu­tions to sup­port de­liv­ery of post­grad­u­ate health­care train­ing and assess­ment in many dis­ci­plines in den­tal and oral surgery, in­ter­na­tional travel medicine, spe­cial­ist sur­gi­cal and med­i­cal assess­ment ed­u­ca­tion, train­ing in foot pathol­ogy and pe­di­atric medicine. Both the in­sti­tu­tions will de­velop joint post­grad­u­ate ed­u­ca­tion, train­ing and clin­i­cal skills pro­grams fur­ther to en­hance clin­i­cal stan­dards through clin­i­cal assess­ment and ex­am­i­na­tions.
