Pol leaders extend condolences to bereaved families
Srinagar, April 16 : J& K's Political leaders across party lines on Tuesday expressed their shock over the boat capsizing incident in Srinagar and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
The prominent political leaders, who grieved over the loss of six lives after the overturning of the boat in the Jhelum river, are JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah, VP JKNC Omar Abdullah, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, Apni Party
President Altaf Bukhari, JKPC President Sajad Gani Lone, CPI ( M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and others.
On the incident, JKNC President while grieving over the loss of lives, including students, accused the government for not completing the construction of the bridge, connecting Gandbal with Batwara. He said that an inquiry must be conducted in the incident forthwith.
JKNC'S Vice President Omar Abdullah in a post on X said, “Deeply concerned by the reports of a boat capsizing on the river Jhelum at Gandabal, Batwara near Srinagar. I hope & pray that all on board this boat are rescued safely & swiftly.”
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said in her X post, “Deeply shocked about the tragedy in Gundbal today. Request LG Manoj Sinha ji to initiate an enquiry at the earliest to ascertain reasons for the inordinate delay in completion of a footbridge here,”
Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari said, “In view of the tragedy caued by the boat capsizing incident, Apni Party is postponing all its activities and events that were scheduled for today. The loss of precious lives, including those of children, in this fatal incident is a monumental tragedy for all of us. It is imperative that the administration conduct a thorough investigation into the boat capsizing incident to ascertain the details, facts, and underlying causes of this tragedy, which claimed several lives, including those of children.”
"It is such distressing news. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. So many minors have lost their lives. My prayers and thoughts are with the parents during this unimaginably difficult time," said JKPC President Sajad Lone in a statement.
CPI ( M) leader M Y Tarigami said that the prolonged construction of the nearby footbridge reportedly pending since the last 20 years could have probably prevented such a tragedy.
Tarigami expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged the administration to provide adequate compensation to the victims' families.
Besides, other political leaders, activists, and business bodies also condoled with the grief- stricken families and prayed for peace to the deceased persons' souls.
