GMC Anantnag hosts one- day CME on GERD
Anantnag, May 20: The Department of Surgery at Government Medical College ( GMC) Anantnag today hosted a one- day Continuous Medical Education ( CME) program focusing on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder ( GERD).
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Zahid Rather, Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. ( Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb, emphasized the critical importance of academic events in enhancing the skills and knowledge of medical professionals. She stated, "Academic initiatives like this CME are vital for fostering the continuous professional development of our medical practitioners. These educational gatherings keep healthcare providers abreast of the latest advancements and innovative treatment methodologies, which are crucial for delivering optimal patient care."

Dr. Nazir Ahmad Wani, Head of the Department of Surgery at GMC Anantnag, highlighted the extensive work done by the department. He noted that the department performs a wide range of surgeries, including major oncosurgeries, urosurgeries, and gastrointestinal surgeries, many of which are conducted laparoscopically. Dr. Wani detailed their contributions to the surgical management of trauma patients and the positive impact on patient outcomes.
The CME featured a series of lectures by distinguished speakers, each covering different aspects of GERD. Dr. Zahid Mohd Rather delivered an insightful lecture on the pathophysiology of GERD, explaining the underlying mechanisms that contribute to the condition. Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad Mir spoke about the clinical features of GERD, helping attendees understand how to recognize and diagnose this condition based on symptoms and patient history. Dr. Aamir Yousuf addressed the topic of laryngopharyngeal reflux, a variant of GERD, discussing its unique symptoms and diagnostic challenges.
Dr. Wafia presented on the management of GERD during pregnancy, offering valuable insights into the unique considerations and treatment strategies for pregnant patients. Dr. Mir Saiqa Shafi discussed the role of multimodal imaging in the diagnosis and management of GERD, highlighting advancements in imaging techniques that aid in accurate diagnosis. Dr. Mir Mujtaba explored the various diagnostic modalities available for the evaluation of GERD, emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis in effective management.
Dr. Mashkoor Ahmad Beig gave an informative talk on the medical management of GERD, outlining the latest pharmacological treatments and therapeutic approaches. Dr. Khalid Bashir concluded the scientific sessions with a presentation on the surgical management of GERD, discussing when surgery is indicated and the various surgical options available.
Dr. Basharat Mujtaba hosted the event and expressed gratitude to all the speakers and participants for their contributions to the success of the CME program. The program was attended by faculty members, consultants, medical officers, and students of GMC Anantnag, among others.
