“The Tamil Nadu Government will bring out a Vision Document 2025 which will contain clear-cut policies for promoting investments in infrastructural sectors like Power, Ports, Ship-building and Renewable Energy”, Chief Minister Selvi J Jayalalithaa said while addressing the National Council meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in Chennai. She invited the industrialists to invest in the State and expressed that one of the immediate tasks before the Government was to improve the investment climate of Tamil Nadu and make it the most favoured investment destination. She pointed out that the state of Tamil Nadu would be an ideal platform to generate wealth. The Chief Minister said, ”Our Government is committed in making Tamil Nadu a new model state among the other Indian States. I invite you all to be active partners in realizing my Vision of making Tamil Nadu Number One, among all the Indian States in all spheres of development’’. The Chief Minister noted that after taking over as Chief Minister just 50 days ago, there had been enthusiastic response from the corporate world in making investments in the state. ``It will be the endeavour of my Government to sustain and stabilize this environment of optimism. On this occasion, I invite you to repose faith in Tamil Nadu. Our Government is committed to renewing the people’s faith in Good Governance and in a socially just and equitable process of development’’. Referring to some of the infrastructure deficits like power shortage in the State, the Chief Minister said that the Government was committed to providing an enabling environment conducive to the growth of the corporate sector in the State. ``I take this opportunity to assure you that my Government is seized of the power shortage and we are taking steps on a war footing to correct the situation. Very soon we will be able to make our State power surplus once again.’’ The Chief Minister said, after the Economic Liberalization in 1991, her Government had announced industrial policies in 1992 that fostered the growth of automobile industries and in 2003 that paved the way for the electronic revolution in Tamil Nadu by attracting companies like Nokia. ``My Government which took over recently is launching a reinvigorated struggle to boost the pace of industrialization in Tamil Nadu’’, Selvi J Jayalalithaa said. Recalling the origins of CII, the Chief Minister said, ``CII has been our active partner in fostering business in Tamil Nadu’’. Praising CII for choosing the theme `Business for Livelihood’ for the year 2011-12, the Chief Minister said the Tamil Nadu Government also had the common man as the focal point and improving his standard of living has been the central theme of the Government’s economic policy. The Chief Minister said, “Though India was set to claim its rightful place in the Global Economic Arena by 2030, at present, we had the problem of poverty and inequitable distribution of income and wealth. I am always deeply concerned about this high incidence of poverty.” She added “My dream is to totally eradicate poverty and unemployment in Tamil Nadu’’. Mr B Muthuraman, President CII, thanked the Chief Minister for her `Visionary Speech’ and offered to do everything possible to realize her dream for the development of the State. Earlier in his welcome address, Mr Muthuraman recalled Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s support to CII in her earlier stints as Chief Minister. He said that over 18% CII members were from Tamil Nadu and “we look forward to continue the partnership between CII and the Government in achieving the goals of the Vision-2025 document’’ to be released soon. He said CII would co-operate with the Government on a long-term vision with social development as the axiomatic theme. Mr Muthuraman suggested that a Joint Task force between CII and the Tamil Nadu Government would be a useful initiative. Mr Adi Godrej, President Designate, CII, who proposed the vote of thanks, requested the Chief Minister to look into the pending building permits in the State.
