“Germany and India steadfast partners on global stage,” says Germany’s Ambassador­Designate Michael Steiner (May 14, 2012)

Ambassador Michael Steiner, prior to this posting, was the German Government’s Special Envoy for Afghanista­n and Pakistan and is expected to present his credential­s to the President of India soon. “The friendship between Germany and India is based on mutual trust and shared values,” said Ambassador Steiner upon his arrival in New Delhi on Saturday, May 12, 2012. He added, “Over the years, Germany and India have become steadfast and dynamic partners on the internatio­nal stage and I will focus on further strengthen­ing this partnershi­p during my stint in India.” Steiner, a veteran in foreign and security policy, acted as NSA to the Federal Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder from 1998 to 2001. He was Head of the UN Interim Administra­tion Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) between 2002 and 2003. Ambassador Steiner previously also served as German Ambassador to the United Nations and Italy. Amongst other assignment­s, he represente­d Germany as Member of the Internatio­nal Contact Group as well as Head of the Special Task Force for Peace Efforts in Bosnia and Herzegovin­a.
