Amity University, Noida, will launch 21 courses — including six undergraduate courses — in the new academic session starting in July. The last date for submitting applications is June 5. “We will launch undergraduate courses in film and TV production, BEd special education in learning disability, integrated BA BEd special education, integrated BCom BEd special education and integrated BSc BEd special education and an honours course in sociology. With this, the total number of undergraduate courses goes up to 106,” said chancellor Atul Chauhan. Amity University enrols around 7,000 students annually and admits students mainly through entrance. Only candidates eligible for scholarships are granted direct admission. Students with 93% or above in Class XII are eligible for a full scholarship while those who score above 88% are eligible for 50% scholarship. However, these students need to have studied the subject they want admission in or related subjects at the school level. Also, direct admissions are not permitted for BArch, BBA LLB and BCom LLB programmes. Those with less than 88% have to appear for an entrance test and an interview. Group discussions are also held for some courses. The university will also launch four new specializations in masters in law —corporate banking and insurance, media and entertainment, medical and health and tax law. “What is unique to our campuses is that we offer three-continent BTech programmes where students study in India, UK, and USA. Amity recently developed the most advanced news and film studios for the journalism and mass communication courses. We also have twinning programs with leading universities, like the University of Birmingham, where students finish half of their BTech, BBA or MBA in India and the other half in UK or USA. This helps students save nearly 50% of the cost of studying abroad,” Chauhan added. Although the university started with professional and technical courses, it has introduced many popular humanities and social science courses, including four language courses-English, French, German and Spanish. The university also offers courses Apart from courses in emerging areas like biotechnology, forensic science, space science. It also offers BA in political science, sociology, social work, psychology, Sanskrit studies and a bachelor in dance and music. When the royals visited Gurgaon Rahul Dravid, former skipper of the Rajasthan Royals, accompanied by the current captain of the team, Shane Watson, and other players visited Amity University at Gurgaon, the university partner of Rajasthan Royals, recently. The players were seen interacting with the enthusiastic students at the campus. The players signing autographs on bats, caps and shirts for the students. Dravid said, “I remember, when we’d have any celeb visiting our campus, we would patiently wait for him and listen to his speech. But at the same time, we’d also crib, ‘yaar zyada mat bol, aur bore mat kar’. So, I won’t

give a lamba bhashan,” and, laughing, added, “It’s great to see young talents in every field. Amity University and Rajasthan Royals both identify and promote young talent, and it is very encouraging to launch Amity Special Sports Scholarships today.” Watson also thanked the university for its support and association with the Rajasthan Royals team. The player strummed a song on the guitar, too. Speaking at the occasion, Aseem Chauhan, chancellor, Amity University, said, “The qualities of leadership, courage, and the spirit to never give up, which have been exhibited by Rajasthan Royals, are also the ones Amity tries to inculcate in its students.” He outlined various noteworthy initiatives that the university and the cricket team have undertaken together, including adopting an orphanage and creating awareness for children with special needs. Chauhan added, “Continuing with such initiatives, we’re having Dravid launch Amity Sports Scholarships for deserving students of the university, who have played at the national and state level.” The function concluded with a question-answer session, where students asked numerous questions to their favourite players. We caught up with cricketer Tim Southee, and he said, “IPL’s been good so far. Things are sailing well under the captaincy of Watson. Playing in India is madness. The support, and the cheers - it’s hard to find these anywhere else.” Sanju Samson added, “I’m the youngest of the lot, and enjoy special attention from all the players. It’s been a roller coaster ride for me. Playing in UAE was a fresh experience.”
