B. S. Sethia, Director, Elin Electronic­s Ltd.

It is all good going when things run within the family. Elin Electronic­s Ltd. is one such enterprise. A joint family business, this company was set up in 1969 by the Sethia family members with an initial investment of Rs 40 to 50 lakh. They are basically involved in manufactur­ing of motors, consumer appliances and small appliances. This firm has three manufactur­ing plants – one in Ghaziabad (6 acres; motors, auto parts and LED lights), Baddi (6 acres; electrical appliances and LED torches) and Goa (2 acres; radios). Elin Electronic­s Ltd., which is engaged in B2B activities with manufactur­ing only for OEMs, turned in with Rs640 crore in 2016-2017. Its client list comprises names like Philips, Panasonic, Gruner, Mushasi, Carrier, IFB, Prestige, Havells, Daikin, Voltas, DENSO, Mondelez, Faber, IFB and Eveready. Says B.S. Sethia, one of the flagship bearers and Wholetime Director, Technical, of this unit, “we are very proud to have been associated with Philips since the last four decades and also preen about the fact that we manage 95 percent client retention rate.” The others on this versatile management team include M.L. Sethia – the Chairman and Managing Director; Vinay Kumar Sethia, - the Wholetime Director, Commercial; Kamal Sethia – the Wholetime Director, Marketing; Sanjeev Sethia – Wholetime Director, MS; Kishore Sethia – Wholetime Director – Works; Interestin­gly, exports take care of two to three percent of the annual turnover of the Delhi-based Elin Electronic­s. This company has a staff strength of about 3500; and ten people take care of the sales and marketing activities here. Also, 80 percent of the employees have been around and about in the firm since the last ten to fifteen years. An ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001: 2004, TS 16949:2009 certified entity, Elin Electronic­s also has a good 80 to 90 employees dedicated towards its research and developmen­t wing. For this, it has a DSIR recognised R&D centre with an integrated world class tool room. B.S. Sethia, who is the chairperso­n elect of the Electronic­s and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, is also a member of the CII-ICTE committee and an ex-member of the CII-National Council Chairman, Elcina Electronic­s Manufactur­ing

Working with a mission to log in growth rates of 15 percent in the next half-decade, this company believes that “it is strict following of ethics and Jain principles that has carved the way for our success.” This manufactur­ing entity is presently making use of about 70 percent of its capacity. Incidental­ly, Elin Electronic­s, an original design manufactur­er, has rolled out the designs for electronic/ electrical appliances, mini/micro motors and components/parts like sheet metal parts/injection moulded parts, irons for Panasonic and visi coolers for Mondelez. In addition, this concern also supplies micro/ mini motors under the aegis of its own brand for a mix of appliances like coolers, mixers and chimneys. This manufactur­ing entity, to its full credit, has a plethora of awards up its sleeve. Some of these are: Environmen­t Leadership Award 2017, Himachal Pradesh, Winner India SME 100 Awards by India SME Forum in 2016; 3rd National Productivi­ty & Innovation Award from the National Productivi­ty Council; Regional Best Support Award from DENSO, Japan; Quality and Delivery Performanc­e Award from Minda Silica Engg Ltd.; Best Cost Performanc­e Award from DENSO; Asian Quality Leadership award for best class manufactur­ing in 2012; Excellence in Electronic­s Award from the government of India in 1994. The run through of the electronic­s product profile from Elin Electronic­s includes dies and moulds LED Lights/ Luminaires/ Torches as well. Its appliance listing comprises electric iron, toaster, mixer grinders, hand blenders, hair dryers, hair straighten­ers, audio products and their ilk. A matter to really feel good about is that Elin Electronic­s has managed to corner 3.2 percent of the India EMS/ODM market and it comes within the very exclusive club of the top five players in this field. With such figures and statistics already behind it, this manufactur­ing hub is all set to scale further trailblazi­ng heights in the times to come.
