Work satisfaction is the highest derivable parameter for most workaholics and successful people, alike. Most of them say that it rates even higher than monetary rewards and awards on their scale of priorities. Mr. Arvinder S.Brara, Chairman & Managing Director, Mantec Consultants (P) Ltd. is one such entrepreneur who belongs to this ilk. The company he runs is a one-stop shop for all consultancies such as human resources development, environment, information technology and project management. It is possibly the only consultancy organization in the world to offer these Management, Technical, Environment and IT Services under one roof. An engineer from the Punjab Engineering College, and an MBA from America, he is one very successful entrepreneur who is spearleading a 145-employee head-turner of an organization. Of these, “we manage to retain about 95% of our people,” he remarks with candidly. The firm, which rang in an average turnover of about Rs 12 crore, is also into the business of providing training to the corporate sector for enhancing their effective persuasion skills. As per Mr. Brara, “we rank number one in terms of the quality of our product.” This, he opines, is also because “we do not focus on money but on the satisfaction of our clients.” For the human resources division itself, “we recruit about 300-400 candidates each year.” Incidentally, the environment division of the organization is working towards

improving the air quality, Swacch Bharat schemes, and planting of more trees. It is an ISO 14001-certified unit. Teed off in 1979 with an initial investment of Rs 5,000 from premises in Nehru Place, New Delhi, Mantec Consultants (P) Ltd. has successfully completed very prestigious projects for the World Bank, ADB, UNDP, UNIDB, JICA, etc among several other high-profile organizations. “All our clients have been retained,” says Mr. Brara with a hint of satisfaction in his voice and manner. He believes that his training with the Shriram Group and Xerox, and his stint in the U.S., have proved to be the turning points in his professional life. The staffers with this company are “treated like family and this helps us achieve our targets in a more cohesive and coherent fashion.” In addition, it is practicality of taking and making decisions with employee participation which is one of the key factors in making this company run as well as it does. The affable entrepreneur is a staunch critic of “lies of any format in any aspect of personal or professional life. The business community, in particular, should realize that to be ethical leads to success.”

The company has a distinct underlying vision and mission. “We wish to develop better people for the society via our HRD consultancy work.” When it comes to the IT related work, “we want to make and develop a better name for our country in the world stage.” The environment-related paraphernalia of the company believes in “doing good for society by creating better environment and pollution-free air.” The scorecard for the success story of this organisation is credited towards “God’s grace, a staunch adherence to ethical practices, hard work of the entire team members, and the policy of placing the benefit of the others before self.” In addition, “always telling the truth even in the face of adversity is an ethos which has paid off for us in real and palpable terms.” The other facet of work ethics which seem to have helped balance factors for this organisation is that “we believe in giving more to the client than what they expect from us.”

Mr. Brara, who is an accredited author of books like ‘The Practical Guide to Managing People’, “The Art of Getting People to Say Yes - Effective Persuasion Skills (EPS)” and ‘Secrets of Health Longevity – How to Nourish and Maintain our Organs’, is very fastidious about his work which also comprises being a local technical associate to many international organizations. Another feather in his cap is a number of awards and citations which have come his way during the course of his several versatile activities. For one, he has bagged the Award for Excellence from Xerox Corporation, the Silver medal for social work from International Jaycees, the Achievement Award from the World Trade Center Association, the Award for outstanding services from the Global Economic Council, the Bharat Gaurav Award from the Council for National Development, and the Presidential Seal of Honor Award from the American Biographical Institute. The initiative and drive for excellence with which he manages his work at Mantec Consultants (P) Ltd. is a testimony to his spirited pursuit of perfection and professionalism. Such characteristics, of course, place him and his company, in a very creditworthy position when it comes to pursuing, achieving, and even surpassing high standards of work excellence.
