IN GOVERNMENT, BUT OUT OF IT: SHIV SENA PROTESTS IN MAHARASHTRA
July 2015: The Shiv Sena protested over the inclusion of Pakistani players in the Pro Kabaddi League. “They are killing our soldiers on the border and we are allowing their citizens to take part in tournaments here. We will not allow the event to take place in the state if it does not exclude Pakistani players,” said a party leader.
July 2015: Party activists protested against Bollywood actor Salman Khan outside the Maharashtra Assembly, demanding that he be charged with treason for defending 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon. Party leader Pratap Sarnaik said Khan had tweeted in favour of Memon, so that his film Bajrangi
Bhaijaan could run in Pakistani theatres. July 2014: Activists protested across the state over alleged derogatory Facebook posts pertaining to Maratha leader Chhatrapati Shivaji and late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. Several state buses, private vehicles, shops and establishments were damaged in Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur and other parts of western Maharashtra. July 2014: A signboard in Marathi led Shiv Sena workers to vandalise some buses run by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation in Kolhapur. Passengers and drivers were asked to get off before the buses were damaged by party workers. They were irked by the signboard, which read that Yellur village was part of Maharashtra though it was under Belgaum district in Karnataka. February 2014: A group of 50 Shiv Sena workers barged into a press conference that was being held by Pakistani band Mekaal Hasan in Mumbai, demanding that the musicians return immediately to their country.
