~1,000 notes with extra security features soon
New ~1,000 notes would be introduced in the market with additional security features in a few months, said Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das (pictured), while addressing the Economic Editor’s Conference on Thursday. Lower denomination notes of ~100 and ~50 will continue to be legal tender, he said, adding the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will introduce a new series of such notes with new designs and added security features. Following the demonetisation of ~500 and ~1,000 notes, banks on Thursday started distributing the new notes of ~2,000.
