All eyes on Amethi

Fifty-two constituencies spread over 11 districts will goto the polls on Monday in the fifth phase of the seven-phase Assembly elections inUtt ar Pradesh. All eyes will be on the Gandhi family strong hold of Am et hi. The Congress has fielded former ML AA meet aS inh, wife of Congress leader and scion of Am et hi’ s erstwhile ruling family, San jay Singh, while the B JP has picked Sing h' s former wife, G ari ma Singh. On the other hand, Gay atri Pr aja patio ft he Sam ajwadiP arty, a Shiv pal-Mu lay am pick, who is seeking re-election from the constituency, is fighting not just against his political rivals but also some of his own. Interestingly, while the Congress and th eSP are con testing the UP polls as allies, they will face each other in Am et hi, where these at-sharing formula didn’ t succeed. In the sixth phase, on March 4,49 constituencies from seven districts will go to the polls. The BJP has a strong presence in large swathes of this region.
