Ducati India to double sales in two years
Ducati, the Italian maker of super-sized motorcycles, expects to break-even by next year in India.
It started operations in India in March 2015 and established six dealerships — Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Cumulative sales last year crossed 1,000 motorcycles and it expects to sell another 1,200 in the next two years. Ducati India is also looking to be profitable by the end of 2018.
Ravi Avalur, managing director, said this country was one of the fastest growing among motorcycle markets, with great potential. Ducati India had an 18 per cent increase in sales during 2016, in a market that grew by 4.6 per cent, he noted.
The company currently offers 24 motorcycle brands, across segments. Race-oriented ones are a key offering. Ducati forayed into the Cruiser world with the XDiavel. Their offerings are also aimed at touring adventurists and urban riders.
It has launched two premium brands aimed at collectors and connoisseurs, the 1299 Superleggera and the Diavel Diesel. It recently announced a Limited Edition of the latter, available on special order.
“We will also see the launch of six new models, including additions to the Ducati Scrambler, Monster and Multistrada families,” said Avalur
Four dealerships would be added over the next year, as part of the plan to double the sales in the next two yrs.
Globally in 2016, Ducati delivered 55,451 motorcycles to customers, an increase in sales for a seventh year. Its factory in Thailand is equipped to serve all Southeast Asian countries, China and India.
