WeWork wins $4.4-bn SoftBank investment

We Work agreed to a $4.4-billion investment from Soft Bank Group and its Vision Fund, part of an aggressive global expansion plan forth eco-working startup. New York-based We Work, which rents office space to workers, and Japan’ s Soft Bank have been form ali sing an alliance this summer that includes a $500 million project in China and a joint venture in Japan. Part of the funds will also go toward letting some shareholde­rs of the privately held start-up cash out. Soft Bank is sitting on a massive cash pile thanks to an early $100 billion technology fund it started with the Saudi Arabian government. The Japanese investment firm has been ram ping up deals with tech companies, rank ling venture capitalist sin the process. V Cs worry Soft Bank could drive up valuation sand create a frothy market.
