The Triumph Street Scrambler is a big boy toy that conquers bad roads, says P Tharyan
The Triumph Street Scrambler, a modified version of the Bonneville Street Twin, comes with some noticeable additions like the 2x2 scrambler style exhaust setup, an engine bash plate and beefy Metzeler Tourance tyres. The motorcycle reflects both retro and a rugged personality at once.
The 19-inch front wheel is bigger than the one on the Street Twin. Additions like machined foot pegs and brake lever significantly improve grip while riding off road. Triumph has also added an interchangeable pillion seat and an aluminium rear rack to improve the utility aspect of the motorcycle. The handle bars are wider, too, and the suspension has been improved. The rider seat is 40mm higher than that of the Street Twin model. The Scrambler has also been equipped with Ride-by-Wire and a torque assist clutch.
Scrambler’s has the same 900cc twin-cylinder engine, mated to a 5-speed gearbox, that also powers Street Twin and the Bonneville T100. The performance, however, has been tweaked a little. Itmay not be the quickest of the lot but it definitely packs enough muscle.
Triumph has added the right kit to the bike to ensure unfiltered performance. It gets switchable ABS (AntiBraking System) and switchable traction control, which can be turned off to enjoy the motorcycle’s off-road abilities.
The ABS and traction control combined with a well engineered disc brake setup ensures adequate safety for the rider. The braking is progressive and lacks no bite, keeping the rider always in control.
The Scrambler is an immense ly capable motorcycle that is not just easy to ride on a tarmac but also on some jungle trails.
