CIL examines feasibilit­y of methanol: Govt

The Centre said state- run miner Coal India (CIL) is examining the feasibilit­y of producing methanol. “CIL is exploring the technocomm­ercial feasibilit­y of production of methanol and other chemicals,” said Coal Minister Piyush Goyal. These initiative­s are under the feasibilit­y study stage. Asserting that CIL is exploring alternativ­e uses of fossil fuel, Goyal said the PSU, through a joint venture with GAIL, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizer­s, and Fertilizer Corporatio­n of India (FCIL) is involved in a venture to set up a coal-based fertiliser plant at the site of the defunct Talcher unit of FCIL.
