PPOs boost final placements at B-schools

- VINAY UMARJI

Top business schools have this year seen an increase in preplacement offers (PPOs) following successful summer internships.

The B-schools have been able to place students within two or three days because of this. Placement teams at Bschools said successful summer internships have contributed to an increase in the PPOs this year. On some campuses, PPOs have led to a 1520 per cent rise in offers.

At the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ahmedabad, Accenture Strategy, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Airtel emerged top recruiters on the back of PPOs, among other reasons. Including PPOs, Accenture made the highest number of offers at 17, BCG made 15, Airtel 10 and Tata Administrative Services seven.

At IIM-Lucknow (IIM-L), the offers included a 20 per cent increase in PPOs, along with a 30 per cent increase in higher entry placement process offers. The institute saw 454 offers from 143 recruiters.

Chairperson-Placements at XLRI-Xavier School of Management, Uday Damodaran, said: “This has been a good year for summer as well as final recruitment. PPOs were higher than last year. In fact, PPOs formed 40 per cent of the batch. Companies are taking summer internships more seriously and giving better quality of projects.”

The institute wrapped up placements in three-and -a-half days for 358 candidates in its flagship programme. In all, 132 firms extended 370 offers.

Consulting and finance firms continued to rule the roost at final placements at B-schools.
