One below the best
A starting price of ~37,999 puts the OnePlus 6T between a mid-range and a premium flagship, writes Khalid Anzar
The successor to the One Plus 6 launched earlier this year, the 6 T comes with several upgrades. And most of them— a bigger battery, anew screen format and an in-display finger print sensor— are useful. But the company has also cut corner son a few flag ship features, such as the ingress protection( I P) rating for water- anddust-resistance, stereo speakers, H DR display and wireless charging, while adopting the cardinal vice of flag ships by doing away with the 3.5 mm audio output jack.
Design and display
The OnePlus 6T looks almost identical to its predecessor, except for its slightly larger 6.4-inch screen. The new edge-to-edge display has no bezels, except a thin bottom chin.

The screen also houses the optical finger print sensor, which is not perfectly accurate, but is better than that of Vivo smart phones.
The screen is bright and vivid. Apart from the default mode, it also supportsthreepre-setcalibration modes— sRGB, DCI-P3andadaptive mode—as well as a custom mode to switch between warm and cool colour tones. Although it lack sH DR capabilities, the screen supports Wide Vine L 1 DR M services required to streamhigh-definition(HD) video content. But because of its unconventional aspect ratio, the screen shows a thick black baron either side while w at chingHD content on Net fl ix and other platforms.
Camera
TheOnePlus6Thasadual-cameramoduleontheback —a 16- megapixel primary sensor and a 20 MP secondary sensor. The primary sensor has optical image sta bili sat ion( O IS) and electronic image sta bili sat ion( E IS ). The front camera is a 16 MP sensor off /2.0 aperture. The improved camera gets two additional modes: Nights cape and Studio Lighting. The nights cape mode switches on automatically in dim light to capture more details with less noise. But the HuaweiP 20 Pro and Google Pixel 3series phones with a similar feature take better shots than the 6 T. The studio lighting mode in portrait shots is a mixed bag of hits and misses.
Performance
Not much has changed in the OnePlus 6T in term of specifications, except that the basemodel comes with 128GB internal storage.
The new performance features include an enhanced gaming mode andsmart-boosttechnology, which make it convenient to answer notifications during play. Compared totheLGG7ThinQ, the6Tloads graphic-intensive games such as PUB G and Asphalt 9 more quickly.
Its 3,700 m Ah battery keeps the phone going for around two days on mixedusage.
Verdict
Starting at ~37,999 for the 6GB/128GB variant, the OnePlus 6T is one step closer in transitioning from a midrange flagship to a premium one. But the phone is not ahead of the curve. Its waterdrop notch is reminiscent of the Oppobranded smartphones and the in-display fingerprint sensor was first introduced by Vivo. That said, OnePlus has done a good job bringing the two features together in a smartphone that does not cost a bomb.
