‘Remote working will create options’

-

Covid has definitely taken a toll on working women. In the whitecollar space, if both the man and the woman were working, there was no domestic help and the kids were at home, it was often the woman who had to quit her job. International studies have also shown that the pandemic affected women more.

However, Covid has also created opportunities for working women on account of trends like remote working. Many women could not work because they were needed at home while the job required them to be present in the office. The pandemic has led to greater acceptance of remote working.

That will open up more options for women to work from home (WFH). Transportation and safety will be less of a constraint. The gender bias that occurred due to the constraints that women face could get mitigated in the remote-working scenario.

If you have lost your job during the pandemic, pick up whatever comes your way right now. Use WFH to take up jobs in other cities. The crucial thing is to stay flexible. If you have the necessary skills, be open to doing a job you have not done earlier. Pick up short-term assignments. They will keep you in the game and enhance your employability.
