Proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules 2020
E-tailers will have to ensure none of their related parties and associated enterprises is listed as seller
Enterprises would be deemed as associated enterprises:
If they are related through a common chain of shareholders, where such shareholders hold at least 5% shares in the related enterprise Or enterprises having 10% or more ultimate beneficial ownership
For example, Starbucks, Voltas or Titan won’t be able to sell products on a Tata-owned e-marketplace
Related parties will have the same meaning as assigned under section 2(76) of the Companies Act 2013
