Facebook India hires EX-IAS officer as head of public policy

Facebook India on Monday said it had appointed former IAS officer Rajiv Aggarwal as its Director of Public Policy. Aggarwal joins the social media giant nearly a year after his predecessor Ankhi Das quit, following a controversy around alleged bias towards the ruling party and hate speeches on the platform. The former bureaucrat joined Facebook from Uber, where he was the head of public policy for India and South Asia.the company said his role will focus on user safety, data protection and privacy, inclusion and internet governance. Aggarwal will report to Ajit Mohan, vice-president and managing director, Facebook India, and will be a part of the India leadership team. Aggarwal comes with 26 years of experience as an IAS officer, including as a district magistrate in nine districts across UP.
