IIT Roorkee bags highest international salary: ~2.15 cr
DAY ONE OF PLACEMENTS: Top domestic offer jumps to ~1.8 cr from ~80 lakh last year
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee bagged the highest international cost-to-company (CTC) of ~2.15 crore ($287,550) during the first session of Day One of the final placements process that began at older IITS on Wednesday.
And Uber offered the highest international CTC of ~2.05 crore ($274,000) at IIT Guwahati and IIT Bombay on Day One first session, with the placement process continuing till midnight at most IITS. IIT Bombay also saw Rubrik make an international offer of ~90.59 lakhs ($121,000), apart from a domestic offers of ~62 lakh per annum by Millennium, ~51.71 lakh per annum by Worldquant and ~46.62 lakh per annum by Blackstone by first slot of Day One.
While the highest international salary offer at IIT Roorkee grew by a whopping 211 per cent from last year's ~69.05 lakh, Dutch firm Optiver had made the highest international offer of ~1.39 crore per annum at IIT Bombay last year on Day One.
IIT Roorkee also scored with the highest domestic offers for three students: ranging from ~1.30 crore to ~1.80 crore, with 11 students getting a ~1 crore-plus salary package, and 13 international offers by afternoon of Day One.
IIT Guwahati saw multiple domestic offers of above ~1.1 crore, while at IIT Madras, Microsoft continued its streak as the top recruiter, extending 19 offers during early sessions of the first day, followed by Texas Instruments (15), Bajaj Auto Ltd (15), Goldman Sachs (10), and Bain and Company (10), among others.
Other marquee recruiters included Qualcomm, Boston Consulting Group, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Mckinsey, Graviton, Apple, Google, and Schlumberger, Amazon, Groww, Flipkart, Intel, Samsung and Twitter, among others.
IIT Madras saw a healthy 43 per cent rise in the total number of job offers: 176 by 34 companies as against 123 by 22 companies last year.
The campus also saw 11 international offers from four companies by the end of session 1.1, including 231 preplacement offers (PPOS). IIT Madras’ placement season this year has so far seen job offers in excess of 400 being made.
The first slot of placements at IIT Bombay saw 28 companies including Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Boston Consulting Group, Airbus, Bain and Company make the highest number of offers. So far, IIT Bombay has received 201 PPOS, higher than last year.
At IIT Guwahati, a total of 200 offers were made by 38 companies during Day One’s first two sessions as against 158 by 43 companies for the same period last year. Offers were made for profiles across IT/ software development engineer, data science, member technical staff, quant, core engineer, algorithmic trader, hardware, analyst, machine learning, business analyst, product designer, graphic designer etc.
Vinay Sharma, IIT Roorkee's Professor In-charge, Placement and Internship Cell, said that the pandemic had brought some directional changes in the placement scenario. “Accordingly, we made our strategy for this placement
season, wherein we tied up with the best of the companies in the sectors related to AI, software, networks, analytics, e-commerce, FMCG, quants, finance, manufacturing and others with focus on the core sector,” said Sharma.
Along with 219 PPOS, IIT Roorkee saw total offers of 437 by first half of Day One, while so far IIT Guwahati has received as many as 179 offers, the highest in the last three years — most of them in the sectors of information technology/software, finance, analyst, and product profiles.
A total of 1,498 students have registered for placements in the 2021-22 academic year at IIT Madras, with 382 companies registering for Phase I of placements for 738 profiles. At IIT Guwahati, 1,160 students registered for placements, apart from 200 companies registering for Phase I of placements for around 250 profiles. As many as 10 start-ups and three public sector undertakings (PSUS) too have registered.
